Advanced Microscopy Core

Core Summary:

The Microscopy/Histology Core facilitates the ready availability of sophisticated morphological techniques by providing electron microscopic services, a confocal microscope facility, along with resource for protocols, analysis and interpretation. Preparation of frozen or paraffin sections from tissues provided by investigators will be added to the services as a fee-for-service effort in the near future.

Services:
  • Confocal microscope use

    The maintenance and supervision of the microscope, which is a complex piece of equipment. In addition, the Core Manager trains new users of the confocal microscope

  • Consultation on histological and morphological analysis and interpretation

  • Cryostat sectioning

    Frozen blocks of tissue will be prepared by the investigator and brought to the core technician with instructions. Unstained and H&E sections and the blocks will be returned to the investigator

  • Immunochemistry on ultrastructural level

  • Paraffin embedding and sectioning

    Fixed tissue will be prepared in investigator’s lab and brought to the core for a weekly scheduled paraffin embedding. Unstained and H&E sections and their blocks will be returned to the investigator

  • Transmission electron microscopic analysis
